Warriors Make Final Run Before Postseason

YANKTON, S.D. – Midland University sent a group of runners to compete in the Mount Marty Invite on Thursday, its final race before the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships. The Warriors had eight men and one woman on the course laid out over the Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, South Dakota. The men's team placed third in the field of six teams that was won by Black Hills State.

In the women's 6k race, Danika Leuenberger placed 23rd with a time of 25:40.57. She is the reigning GPAC Runner of the Week after her performance at the Platte River Rumble.

Lucas Hjortkjaer, the reigning men's GPAC Runner of the Week, was the top placer for the Warriors in the men's 8k race. He finished 8th with a time of 26:19.83. Henri Stoeckermann was closely behind, taking 11th with a time of 26:49.91. Rounding out the top five for Midland were Jonathan Mahoney (19th, 27:23.13), Braden Taylor (20th, 27:30.83), and Kelvin Korir (27th, 28:18.33).

Others competing for the Warriors in the field of 65 runners were Adrian Imm (44th, 30:42.47), Hudson McCafferty (49th, 31:34.11), and Jay Stoa III (55th, 32:41.09).

Midland will have just over two weeks before the 2024 GPAC Championships. The conference event will take place on Saturday, November 9 at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Nebraska.
