Johnson Competes at NAIA National Championship
VANCOUVER, Wash. – For the second straight season, Midland University's Myia Johnson competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Cross Country National Championship on Friday. Running as an individual, Johnson placed 242nd out of 331 runners in the final meet of the season.
Through the first 1000 meters of the race, she ran a split of 3:47.7 and was in 208th place. As the race progressed, she maintained a strong pace right around the four-minute mark for each 1000m. The course was a 2K loop that the competitors ran three times.
After a split of 4:22.8 in the first half of her final lap, Johnson clocked her third fastest leg with a 4:08.8 down the backstretch. She finished with a time of 24:52.2 over the 6K course to take 242nd.
With the cross country season now in the books, Johnson and her teammates will shift their focus to the indoor track and field season. Midland will kick off its 2023-24 track and field schedule on December 1-2 at the SDSU Holiday Invitational in Brookings, South Dakota.
