Warriors Place Ninth at GPAC Championship Meet

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Runners from Midland University joined others from around the conference on Saturday morning for the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championship. The Warriors had six runners in the field of 103 competitors on the 6k course at Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

Dordt University won the team title with all five of its scoring runners in the top 10, including Jessica Kampman who won the individual title with a time of 21:20.05. As a team, the Warriors placed 9th out of the 12 conference schools.

Midland's top runner was Myia Johnson. She ran a time of 22:36.5 to place 18th. Next fastest was Nevaeh Sarabia who earned 62nd place with a time of 24:55.34. Magdalena De La O and Shyanne Pipkin placed 84th and 96th, respectively. De La O had a time of 26:54.88, while Pipkin finished with a time of 29:43.68. Rounding out the Midland team were Kylah Vogel (34:21.89, 102nd) and Amber Rodgers (34:23.25, 103rd). Five of the six Warriors reached personal bests on the day.

Midland's top runners will now await the NAIA's announcement of competitors for the 2023 National Championship. They'll release the field of teams and individuals on Tuesday, November 7. The championship race will take place on Friday, November 17 in Vancouver, Washington.
