
Group of Warriors Compete at Missouri Valley Open
MARSHALL, Mo. – No. 15 Midland University sent a limited roster to the Burns Athletic Center on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Missouri Valley Open. Four Warriors competed over the weekend.
Emily Paulino wrestled at 124 pounds. In the opening round, Paulino defeated Damiyah Smith of Oklahoma State by technical fall, 10-0. In round two, she pinned Willow Dubois of Baker in 1:17. Paulino suffered her first loss of the meet in round three, falling to unattached wrestler Sierra Chiesa, 8-2. In consolation round four, she pinned Markayla Lottie of Avila in 1:08. Paulino won her consolation round five match over No. 14-ranked Josie Davis of Campbellsville by injury default at 5:20. Her run ended in consolation round six with a narrow 6-4 decision loss to Alexandra Fitzgerald of Sacred Heart.
No. 19-ranked Andrea Frisque competed at 138 pounds. After a first-round bye, Frisque lost by technical fall to Leidaly Rivera of Lindsey Wilson, 15-3. In consolation round two, she forfeited her match to Cora-Yvette Carr of Texas Woman's University.
Two Warriors wrestled at 160 pounds. No. 20-ranked Makena Schramm dropped her opening-round match to Poorna Babu of Texas Woman's University by decision, 10-2. After a consolation round one bye, Schramm pinned Maddie O'Brien of Baker University in 2:11. She advanced through consolation round three with a 6-0 decision over Jayla Jones of Quincy University but ended her tournament with a 10-0 technical fall loss to Rose Cassioppi of Iowa in round four.
Also competing at 160 pounds was Ja'Nya Banks. After a first-round bye, Banks lost by technical fall to unattached wrestler Destiny Rodriguez, 10-0. Following a consolation round two bye, she earned a 10-0 technical fall over GiGi Jones of Ottawa University. Banks added another technical fall victory in consolation round four, defeating Sophia Sosa of Quincy, 10-0. Her tournament concluded in consolation round five with a tight 2-1 decision loss to Mohagany Casel of Wayland Baptist University.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, December 7, at the Conner/Oppenheim Open, hosted by Doane University. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. inside the Fuhrer Field House in Crete, Nebraska.
