Warriors Capture Both Team Titles at Southern Collegiate Cup

HOUSTON, Texas – Midland University delivered a commanding performance at the 2024 Southern Collegiate Cup Series, earning team championships in both the equipped and raw divisions. Competing over the weekend in Houston, the Warriors demonstrated their depth and strength across all weight classes, with multiple lifters claiming titles and runner-up finishes.

In the equipped division, Midland dominated the leaderboard. Jaylen Dehoyos won the 56kg class with a total of 420kg, edging out teammates Calista Kumm and Annica Gonzales, who finished second and third with identical totals of 417.5kg. Janiya Sanchez took home the 60kg crown with a total of 412.5kg. In the 75kg division, Janessa Vela lifted an impressive 452.5kg to secure first place, while Kate Guzman's 432.5kg earned her second. Midland's success continued in the 90kg class as Jaycee Barnes claimed victory with a 472.5kg total. In the 100kg class, Janessa Gallegos placed second with 455kg.

The raw division featured more impressive results for the Warriors. Jessica Haggerty headlined the team's efforts, winning the 56kg class with a 397.5kg total and earning the Women's Raw Best Lifter honor. Delilah Garcia captured the 48kg title with a total of 267.5kg, while Karla Benavidez led the 60kg division with a 372.5kg effort. Madison Garcia dominated the 67.5kg class, posting a winning total of 430kg. In the 100+kg division, Madigan Lee secured second place with a total of 435kg. Additional podium finishes included Abby Coleman in the 56kg class and Maria Nguyen in the 67.5kg class, who both placed second with totals of 305kg and 372.5kg, respectively.

Midland will take a break from competition until the start of next semester when they begin preparing for the 2025 Collegiate Nationals. The championships will be held in Oklahoma City on April 3-5.
