
Warriors Place First in Season Opening Event
LINCOLN, Neb. – Midland University kicked off its 2024-2025 powerlifting season with a dominant performance at the Strong Husker Powerlifting event over the weekend. The Warriors secured 13 individual victories across 18 weight divisions and claimed the team title with a total score of 144 points. Concordia University finished second with 101 points, while the University of Nebraska-Lincoln placed third with 24 points.
Midland's women's team won six of the eight raw division titles. Individual winners included Delilah Garcia (48kg) with a total of 240kg, Calista Kumm (60kg) with 355kg, Madison Garcia (67.5kg) with 410kg, Kate Guzman (75kg) with 360kg, Janessa Vela (90kg) with 385kg, and Avery Davis (100+kg) with 407.5kg.
On the men's side, the Warriors captured seven division titles. Adrian Avalo (60kg) lifted a total of 475kg, Landen Longoria (67.5kg) 575kg, Michael Gonzalez (75kg) 617.5kg, Danerian Actlis (82.4kg) 647.5kg, Jaileel Ross (100kg) 787.5kg, Caden Jones (125kg) 627.5kg, and Gabe McNeil (140kg) 687.5kg. Ross earned the honor of being named the men's best lifter of the meet.
Up next on the schedule will be the Central Collegiate Cup Series. The two-day event will be hosted by Midland inside Hopkins Arena on November 23-24 in Fremont, Neb.
