
Warriors Finish Strong at GPAC Championships
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Midland University women's track and field team earned a seventh-place finish at the 2025 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Championships held this weekend at the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex.
The Warriors finished with 52 points, led by several strong individual performances. The team's standout athlete was senior Kerrigan Myers, who claimed the GPAC championship in the pentathlon with 3,304 points, highlighted by top marks in the 60m hurdles (8.70), high jump (1.59m), shot put (11.45m), and long jump (5.16m). Myers also finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds, securing an NAIA B Standard qualifying mark.
Hannah Newton led the way in the high jump, earning the GPAC title with a leap of 1.68m, surpassing the NAIA A Standard. Myers and Krista Hardy each cleared 1.65m to place third and fourth, respectively, in the event. Both marks earned the NAIA B Standard, with Myers edging out Hardy in a judge's decision for the third spot.
In the shot put, Maggie Heesch earned a sixth-place finish with a throw of 13.52m, securing an NAIA B Standard. Heesch also posted a third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.12m, again meeting the NAIA B Standard.
The Warriors also saw strong performances in the relays. The 4x400m relay team of Nevaeh Sarabia, Rianna Greene, Dala Drowne, and Aurora Griffin placed eighth with a time of 4:15.14, while the 4x800m relay team of Sarabia, Carly Carstens, Shyanne Pipkin, and Maddie Bergstrom also placed eighth in 11:06.48.
Midland's 52 points put them in seventh place overall, with Doane taking the team title with 163 points, followed by Dordt (145) and Concordia (141.5). A handful of athletes will now begin preparing for the 2025 NAIA Indoor National Championships which will be held on February 27-March 1 in Gainesville, Florida.
