
Warriors Start New Year Strong at Dordt Open
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Midland University delivered several top-ten finishes at the Dordt Open on Saturday at the Holwerda Family Indoor Track inside the Recreation Center. It was the first meet of the second semester for the Warriors as they competed alongside seven other schools.
Kerrigan Myers highlighted the day for the Warriors, winning the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 seconds. She also finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 10.99 meters.
In the 60-meter dash, Neenah Guerrero placed fourth with a time of 8.19 seconds, and teammate Aurora Griffin followed closely behind in sixth at 8.24 seconds. Rianna Greene finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, clocking 28.15 seconds.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Kerrigan Myers, Neenah Guerrero, Vanessa Rice, and Aurora Griffin claimed victory with a time of 1:48.85. The Warriors' B squad of Dala Drowne, Emma Strom, Rianna Greene, and Kayli Carey placed fourth in the same event with a time of 1:56.63.
In the field events, Hannah Newton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.65 meters (5-05.00), while Krista Hardy tied for second with a height of 1.55 meters. Shyanne Pipkin placed eighth, clearing 1.45 meters, and Dala Drowne tied for eighth as well.
Neenah Guerrero had another strong showing in the long jump, finishing third with a mark of 5.22 meters. Emma Strom placed seventh with a distance of 4.91 meters.
Madelynn Dougherty took second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.88 meters, while Shyanne Pipkin placed fourth with a mark of 9.40 meters.
In the women's 800-meter run, Nevaeh Sarabia finished seventh with a time of 2:33.12. Maddie Bergstrom placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run, clocking 3:39.50.
Emmalee Bartak placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 10.64 meters.
Next weekend, Midland will split up its team with athletes competing at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, South Dakota, and at the UNL Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska. Both meets will take place on January 17-18.
