Warriors Take Sixth at GPAC Meet; Myers Earns Multi-Event Title
YANKTON, S.D. – Over the weekend, Midland University competed in the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Championships held at the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Field House in Yankton, South Dakota. As a team, the Warriors placed 6th out of the field of 12 teams and had several standout performances on Friday and Saturday.
Leading the charge, Kerrigan Myers emerged victorious in the pentathlon with an impressive point tally of 3232, while Madyson Ray secured 4th place with a total of 2942 points.
Emma Strom secured an impressive 4th place in the 60m dash with a swift time of 7.88, closely followed by Myers at 5th with a time of 7.89. Myers nearly seized her second championship victory in the 60m hurdles. After setting a facility and championship record with an outstanding time of 8.51 in prelims, she wasn't able to recover quickly enough in the finals, placing 3rd with a time of 8.60.
Neenah Guerrero had a solid showing in the 200m, clinching the 9th spot with a time of 26.65. Additionally, she showcased versatility with a 10th-place finish in the long jump, covering a distance of 5.06m.
Nevaeh Sarabia ran a splendid race in the 600m, securing a 5th-place finish with a time of 1:44.03. Myia Johnson held her ground in the 1000m, finishing 7th with a time of 3:11.99.
In the high jump, Krista Hardy soared to a tie for 2nd place by clearing a height of 1.55m. Meanwhile, Maggie Heesch showcased her strength, earning 7th place in the shot put with a distance of 13.37m, and securing 4th place in the weight throw with a heave of 17.13m.
Individuals placing in the top eight and relays in the top three will be named All-GPAC.
Up next, Midland will advance a handful of athletes to the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The final indoor meet of the season will take play on February 29 through March 2 in Brookings, South Dakota.
