(RV) Warriors Take Down Concordia; Reach GPAC Championship

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – (RV) Midland University opened it conference tournament on Thursday afternoon with a semifinal dual against Concordia University. The No. 2-seeded Warriors battled past the No. 3-seeded Bulldogs, 4-2, to punch their ticket to the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championship on Saturday.

Playing for the third time this season, Concordia looked to reverse the outcome of the previous meetings as it took the point from doubles play. They narrowly clinched the first team point of the dual by claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Midland's duo of Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder displayed their teamwork at the No. 2 spot, triumphing over the Bulldogs' Chakira Derman and Tessa Blough by a score of 6-1.

As the competition transitioned to singles action, Midland unleashed a relentless assault, clinching four matches to secure the victory. Cedano Lapaix showcased her skill and determination at the No. 1 singles spot, prevailing over Derman (7-6, 6-4). Graziella Dallagnol entered at No. 3s and dispatched Blough (6-1, 6-4) behind a convincing performance.

The Warriors' triumphs continued as Elaina Fanton secured a win at No. 4 singles over Alana Lopez Pagan (6-0, 6-1). Jeena Carle rounded off Midland's singles wins at No. 6s, edging past Gabrielle Heiser (6-2, 7-6).

With the win, Midland advances to the GPAC Championship Dual on Saturday against top-seeded (RV) Morningside. It will be the third straight trip to the conference championship for the Warriors. They'll look to avenge their loss earlier in the week to the Mustangs in the regular-season title-deciding dual. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. at the First Serve Tennis Center on April 27.
