Season Begins with Second Place Finish for Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University had a strong showing at the GPAC Invite on Saturday inside the Dillon Family Aquatic Center. Competing against three other schools, the Warriors scored 332 points and placed second with behind the College of Saint Mary who won the invite with 651 points. Morningside University was second with a score of 272 while Dordt University scored 229 points in its first-ever meet.

Mya Nemechek and Sophia Gurrieri won two events each with the Warriors winning five individual events and both relays.

Nemechek won the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard backstroke with respective times of 31.59 seconds and 1.00.49 minutes. Gurrieri picked up wins in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly races with times of 29.13 in the 50 and 1.06.57 in the 100. Quinty Rouschop was another event winner as she won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1.11.31.

Midland will be back in the pool inside the Dillon Family Aquatic Center next Saturday as it hosts a quadrangular meet with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and Rockhurst University coming to Fremont. Swimming is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. on October 5 in Fremont.
