
Warriors Thump Waldorf in GPAC Action
FOREST CITY, Iowa – Midland University took a trip up to Forest City, Iowa to take on Waldorf University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on a Saturday evening. The Warriors put together a dominant performance, establishing a commanding 6-0 lead in the first half and adding another four goals in the second half for the lopsided 10-0 shutout victory.
Midland quickly built momentum with a goal in the opening minute of the match. NaTaija Blaylock set up Vanessa Bevalian, who found the back of the net. Jaya Soor added two goals to the tally with her first coming in the 10th minute, assisted by Aminata Lewis. The second came in the 24th minute, with another assist from Blaylock.
Rosa Schellmann converted a penalty kick in around the same time while Bevalian netted her second goal in the 30th minute of action. Lewis claimed the assist before capping off the dominant first half with a goal of her own in the 36th minute. Midland held a commanding lead of 6-0 after 45 minutes of play.
After the intermission, Soor kept the momentum alive with a goal in the 52nd minute to wrap up her hat trick. Lewis picked up her second goal of the game in the 54th minute with an assist from Soor. Midland continued to press forward, netting two more goals. Blaylock found the back of the net in the 66th minute and then Brooklyn Tejral scored her first collegiate goal two minutes later, in the 68th minute to cap off the 10-0 victory.
Midland restricted Waldorf to just two shots throughout the match while launching an impressive 31 of its own. Kyla Pires played a full 90 minutes in goal, securing the shutout with two saves on the night.
"Every player on the roster contributed to the result tonight. Congratulations to the attacking player of the game, Jaya Soor, and the defensive player of the game, Addison Castellanos," commented head coach Kari Heedum.
Midland (2-1-2, 2-1-2 GPAC) will host Briar Cliff (1-8-2, 1-3-1 GPAC) in a conference matchup next weekend. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, October 12.
