SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to face off against the Briar Cliff Chargers on a Wednesday afternoon in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) game. The Warriors dominated the Charges to earn the 2-0 win and three points in the conference standings.
Midland got a corner-kick opportunity as the first half was nearing the end. Rosa Schellmann initiated the set piece and found Addison Castellanos, who headed the ball into the net, to give the Warriors a goal in the 40th minute of action. They would take that lead into the break as they held a 5-3 advantage in shots over BCU.
After the intermission, the Warriors continued to put pressure on the Chargers offensively. Schellmann picked up her second assist of the day as she crossed the ball to Hanna Schimmer, who sent the ball soaring past the keeper to give Midland a two-goal lead.
Tough defense in front of Kyla Pires limited the Chargers to just two shots in the second half. For the game, Pires collected three saves as she went the distance in net.
"It felt good to get one in the first half. Briar Cliff didn't make it easy on us as they applied pressure throughout the whole game," commented interim head coach Tatum Tremain. "The team continued to fight and put another one on the board in the second half. It really showed me how much they really wanted it. We are super happy to get this result, and are excited to celebrate our seniors on Saturday."
Midland (9-4-4, 6-2-3 GPAC) will return to home turf for Senior Night as they face Mount Marty (1-12, 0-10 GPAC) on Saturday, October 28. The conference matchup is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
