Warriors Battle Doane to Draw on the Road

CRETE, Neb. – Midland University traveled to Crete, Nebraska to face Doane University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Wednesday night. After falling behind in the first period, a goal early in the second half pulled them even for the 1-1 draw despite constant pressure on the Tigers' defense.

Midland came out to battle in the first half, getting multiple shots up in the first 45 minutes. They led 7-4 in attempts at the break but trailed on the scoreboard as Doane was able to find the back of the net in the 43rd minute for the 1-0 halftime lead.

After the intermission, the Warriors continued their aggressive play as they were eager to pull even. With less than three minutes gone by in the half, Aminata Lewis collected the ball off the Tigers' keeper and sent it soaring to the back of the net in the 48th minute. The offensive game plan to put pressure on the Tigers continued but their defense was able to withstand a 14-3 shot difference in the final half and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Midland had a massive lead in shots at 21-7 with an 11-4 edge in shots on target.

Kyla Pires earned the draw in goal for MU. She played the full 90 minutes, picking up four saves on the night.

Midland (8-4-3, 5-2-2 GPAC) will head to Mitchell, South Dakota this weekend to face Dakota Wesleyan (6-7, 5-4) in a conference matchup. The game is slated for 5:00 p.m. start on Saturday, October 21 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
