Warriors Extend Winning Streak to Four with Win at Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Midland University made the trip up to Sioux Center, Iowa to take on Dordt University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Saturday. As the teams moved indoors to avoid thunderstorms in the area, the Warriors' offense struck early and often on its way to a 6-2 win over the Defenders.

Midland took the early lead with a goal in the 10th minute as Emma Andersen found the back of the net off an assist from Dana Gomez. Moments later, Ashley Atkinson scored off an assist by Hanna Schimmer in the 14th minute of play. The Warriors' offense slowed a bit before a penalty kick opportunity in the 32nd minute. Addison Castellanos won the showdown with the keeper, finding the back of the net to put the Warriors up 3-0 heading into halftime.

After the intermission, Midland continued to put pressure on Dordt. A goal in the 47th minute by Schimmer put them firmly in the driver's seat inside the American State Bank Sports Complex.

Dordt ended its scoreless drought as it was awarded a penalty kick in the 62nd minute. They chose the correct half of the goal, bringing them into the scoring column.

Shortly after, Midland answered with a goal in the 65th minute. Atkinson found the back of the net for the second time on the day as Schimmer picked up her second assist. Adding another tally to the ledger was Aminata Lewis in the 77th minute. That put the Warriors up 6-1.

With time narrowing, the Defenders pushed one more goal into the net. They scored the game's final tally in the 81st minute as the Warriors picked up the 6-2 victory.

Hannah Tillison played the full 90 minutes in goal to earn the win. She collected nine saves on the day.

"Great performance by the ladies to get a great win. Our group was relentless from the start and really imposed our game on them," commented head coach Cody Bartlow. "We are excited about the group's potential as we continue to build to reach our goals."

Midland (7-2-1, 4-0 GPAC) will travel to Seward, Nebraska to take on Concordia (6-2, 2-0 GPAC) in a conference tilt on Wednesday, September 27. The match is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
