
Warriors Fall Prey to No. 5 Benedictine in Season Opener
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University opened its 2025 season with a non-conference matchup against No. 5-ranked Benedictine College at home on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors were overmatched as the Ravens soared to a dominant 30-2 victory.
Benedictine struck first, scoring 44 seconds into the game, and tallied the first four goals of the contest. Madi Marusiak netted the Warriors' first goal of the season on a free-position shot with 10:35 left in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Ravens responded with seven straight goals to close out the period, taking an 11-1 lead into the second.
In the second quarter, Benedictine extended its lead with seven more goals to take a commanding 18-1 lead into halftime. At the break, the Ravens had a 32 to 3 lead in shots.
The rout continued with the Ravens scoring 95 seconds into the third quarter. They added six more goals in the period, entering the final frame with a 25-1 advantage.
Benedictine struck again to start the fourth before Chloe Harrison tallied the Warriors' second goal, converting a free-position shot with 10 minutes to go. Four unanswered goals by Benedictine closed out the game with a 30-2 victory.
Statistically, Benedictine led in most categories, holding advantages in ground balls (28 to 11), draw controls (24 to 9), and shots (51 to 4).
Shelby Tracy recorded 12 saves in her collegiate debut for the Warriors.
Midland (0-1) will hit the road for its next three games. The Warriors will travel to face Ottawa (0-1) on March 6. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Ottawa, Kansas.
