Warriors’ Season Ends in KCAC Semifinals
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Midland University had its women's lacrosse season end on Thursday in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Tournament semifinals. The Warriors fell to No. 8 Missouri Baptist University, 18-2, at Spartan Stadium in St. Louis.
Missouri Baptist scored early and often, jumping out to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and took an 11-1 lead into halftime. The Spartans outscored Midland 2-1 in the third quarter, before blanking the Warriors 5-0 in the final frame.
Spartans attacker Natalie Patrick was the star of the first half, scoring four of her five goals on the day, before the break. Lydia Cornett tallied six goals against the Warriors, four of which came in the second half.
The Warriors trailed 10-0 before Chloe Harrison scored off a Madilynn Edwards assist, a man up, to make it 10-1 with 2:15 remaining in the second quarter. Harrison found the back of the net once more, scoring an unassisted goal in the third quarter, that made it a 12-2 contest with 5:33 remaining in the frame.
Kayla Bailey recorded 10 saves off 28 shots. Her starting counterpart, Amelia Shaw tended the net for the first 45 minutes of the contest, recording three saves off five Midland shots. Kevynn Bouchard was in goal for the final 15 minutes and did not face a Warrior shot.
Turnovers hurt the Warriors as they committed 29, to the Spartans' 19. Missouri Baptist won 17 of the 23 draw controls and kept the pressure on Midland throughout the day, outshooting the Warriors 39-6.
Midland ends the year 3-10 and will depart five seniors from the 2024 team. The Warriors will look to grow their roster and continue to develop players in the program during the offseason under the guidance of head coach Masey Jay.
