(RV) Ottawa Hands Warriors Conference Loss

OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University scored seven first-period goals, sparking a 14-8 victory over Midland University on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field. The Braves tallied four goals in the first five minutes of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) match, and added three more in the opening quarter's final eight minutes, to set the tone for the day.

At the end of the first quarter, Ottawa led 7-1 and took a 9-3 lead into halftime. The Braves' offensive dominance continued in the third, outscoring the Warriors 4-2, to go up 13-5. Midland put together a good effort in the fourth, outscoring Ottawa 3-1. However, it was not enough, as the Braves claimed the 14-8 victory.

Ottawa was led by Mackenzie Simmons, with five goals. Ashley Santillan scored two goals and added three assists. Curstin Brown scored twice and assisted on a goal, while Felecia Dixon also found the back of the net, twice.

Midland was sparked by Madilynn Edwards, who scored six goals on the afternoon. Chloe Harrison and Caitlin Bowers scored a goal each for the Warriors. Kadence Rose, Madigan Marusiak, and Alexis Rios each earned an assist on the attack.

Ottawa goalie Shelby Bearden recorded 6 saves, off 14 Midland shots. Midland's Kayla Bailey had 12 saves off 26 attempts at the goal.

The Braves won 41 ground balls to Midland's 22. The Warriors turned the ball over 27 times, while Ottawa committed just 11 turnovers. On the afternoon, Ottawa outshot Midland, 39-23.

Midland (3-8) will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Culver-Stockton (4-5) in a nonconference matchup. The game will be the final regular-season contest for the Warriors and gets underway at 1:00 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
