
No. 6 Missouri Baptist Spoils Senior Day
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University played host to No. 6-ranked Missouri Baptist University on Friday afternoon in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) matchup at Heedum Field. Before the game, the Warriors honored their senior class and families. On the turf, the Spartans overwhelmed the home team as they earned a resounding 26-2 victory.
From the opening whistle, the Spartans asserted their authority, establishing a commanding 7-0 lead after the first quarter through an aggressive offensive onslaught. Despite Midland's efforts to stem the tide, Missouri Baptist continued their relentless attack.
Midland found a glimmer of hope at the start of the second quarter when Madilynn Edwards provided an assist for Madigan Marusiak, putting the Warriors on the scoreboard within the opening minute. However, the Spartans swiftly quelled any potential momentum with six unanswered goals before halftime.
Undeterred, Missouri Baptist maintained their offensive efficiency into the second half, adding seven more goals to their tally in the third quarter, firmly solidifying their dominance with a commanding 20-1 lead.
In the final quarter, the Spartans continued to assert their superiority, extending their lead with five more goals. Chloe Harrison managed to find the back of the net for the Warriors with just under four minutes remaining, offering a brief respite amidst the relentless pressure from Missouri Baptist.
However, the Spartans had the final say, capping off their impressive performance with one last goal, sealing a comprehensive 26-2 victory over the Warriors.
MBU led in virtually all statistical categories. The Spartans scored their 26 goals on 48 shots, won 23 draw controls, forced 26 turnovers, and had 28 ground balls. Midland scored 2 goals on 7 shots and had 8 draw controls while forcing 17 turnovers. The Warriors added 18 ground balls to their tally.
In goal, Christian Myers picked up 11 saves while suffering the setback.
Midland (3-7, 1-3 KCAC) will look to bounce back as it travels to face Ottawa (2-6, 0-1 KCAC) next weekend. The Warriors and Braves will take the turf at AdventHealth Field in Ottawa, Kansas on Saturday, April 6.
