
Cardinals Keep Warriors at Bay
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Taking the turf for the final time on its spring break trip, Midland University went up against Concordia University-Ann Arbor on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors were able to score a pair of first-period goals however, they were held in check the remainder of the game, falling 15-to the Cardinals at Ferry Field, inside Cardinal Stadium.
After Concordia's Tara Drianne scored a goal in the opening minute, Midland answered with a pair of goals to take the lead. Alexis Marshall and Madilynn Edwards scored seventeen seconds apart, near the midway portion of the opening quarter, to put Midland ahead. The Cardinals answered with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead after one quarter, and never looked back as they scored 14 unanswered to the 15-2 victory.
Shots on goal and ball control were the difference in the contest. The Cardinals outshot Midland 33 to 15 and won the groundball battle, 26 to 16.
Concordia's Madeline Turcotte led her team in scoring with five goals. Fox added three goals for the home team while Michaela Ullery played all 60 minutes in goal, giving up two goals, and recording 10 saves for the win.
Hallie Gehring had two assists on the two goals from Alexis Marshall and Madilynn Edwards. Emily Gonsalves recorded 11 saves in goal for Midland, going the full 60 minutes.
Midland (1-5, 0-1 KCAC) will return to conference action this weekend when it travels to Leavenworth, Kansas, to play Saint Mary (0-5). Action begins at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
