Warriors Pick Up First Victory of the Season at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – Midland University began its Spring Break trip by earning its first victory of the 2024 season, defeating Madonna University, 14-10, on Sunday afternoon. Madilynn Edwards led the Warriors with four goals and an assist on the day. Madigan Marusiak scored three times and had an assist, while Alexis Marshall added three goals and two assists for Midland. Chloe Harrison and Hallie Gehring added two goals apiece, while Harrison contributed an assist for the victors.

After a 4-4 tie going into halftime, Midland outscored the Crusaders 10-6 in the second half, to claim the win. In a tightly contested match, Madonna led the Warriors 10-9 with 12:17 remaining in the game. However, Midland scored the final five goals of the contest to pull out the 14-10 win. Madilynn Edwards scored all four of her goals with under ten minutes to play. Edwards tied the game at ten, off an assist from Marusiak with 9:36 to play. Then, forty-nine seconds later, Edwards put Midland ahead to stay, off an Alexis Marshall assist to make it 11-10. Marusiak added a goal off a free position shot with 6:29 to play, to make it 12-10, Midland. Fifteen seconds later, Edwards found the net again, this time down a player, assisted by Jewell Milliman to make it 13-10. The final tally came with 4:20 to play. Up a player, Edwards scored off a Ryland Nelson assist, for the final goal, and a 14-10 victory.

Midland battled through adversity, as the match totaled 22 penalties on the two teams. The Warriors also withstood the outstanding performance from the Crusaders' Mia Dyson, who totaled six goals, on the day.

Emily Gonsalves picked up the victory in goal for Midland. The netminder recorded five saves, to help the Warriors to the win. Hannah Dickson took the loss for Madonna, giving up 14 goals, with 8 saves.

Midland (1-3) returns to action on Tuesday, March 12, when it takes on Siena Heights (1-2). The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at O'Laughlin Stadium in Adrian, Michigan.
