Eagles Hold Off Warriors in Matinee

FREMONT, Neb. – It was an early start time for Midland University and the University of Northwestern on Thursday as the teams met for a 1:00 p.m. game in Fremont. It was a two-goal contest at the half before the Eagles used a big third quarter to pull away for the 13-7 win in the nonconference matchup between NAIA and NCAA Division III schools.

Northwestern outscored Midland in the first quarter, 6-3. Emma Ruegemer and Maddie Hauer scored a pair of goals to lead the Eagles. Hallie Gehring, Chloe Harrison, and Madilynn Edwards all found the back of the net, for Midland. The Warriors were able to climb a bit closer in the second quarter, by outscoring the visitors, 2-1. Harrison scored her second goal of the day, a man up, with 12:48 remaining in the half, off a Ryland Nelson assist, to make it 6-4, Eagles. After Maddie Hauer scored her third goal for Northwestern, Alexis Marshall scored with 3:05 left in the half, a man up, for Midland, making it 7-5, Northwestern. That would be the score at the break.

The Eagles took control in the third quarter. Hauer scored her fourth goal of the day with 12:15 left in the third. Then, Ainsley Thompson recorded a goal off a free position shot, to make it 9-5. A man-up, Emma Snyder added to the lead with 52 seconds remaining in the quarter. However, the Eagles weren't done, as Lauren Parr scored 11 seconds later, to make it 11-5, Eagles, after three quarters.

Paar and Reuegemer added early fourth-period goals for the Eagles, before Chloe Harrison scored her third and fourth goals of the day, in the final two minutes, making the final score, 13-7, in favor of Northwestern.

Maddie Hauer scored four goals to lead the Eagles, Emma Ruegemer added three, and Lauren Parr tallied two. Chloe Harrison led Midland with a four-goal performance, in the loss. In goal, Northwestern's Daisy Koffler stopped six shots off 13 Warrior attempts, on goal. Midland's Christina Myers played all sixty minutes, stopping 13 shots off 27 Eagle attempts.

Midland (0-3) will begin its Spring Break trip with action in Livonia, Michigan on Sunday, March 10 when it faces Madonna (0-5). Action begins at 10:00 a.m. on the MU Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
