Warriors Finish Fourth at Mid-States Championships, Defeat SCAD in Bracket Play

WICHITA, Kan. - Midland University was back in action this past weekend, competing in the Mid-States Championships, hosted by Wichita State and Newman University. After qualifying for bracket play in 7th place, the Warriors defeated the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) before falling to Sam Houston State University in the semifinals.

The Warriors had a strong showing on the first day of qualifying, finishing Saturday in 5th place with a team total of 5344 pins. By the end of day two, Midland qualified in 7th place, securing a spot in the eight-team tournament bracket.

In bracket play, Midland swept 2nd-seeded SCAD 3-0 in a best-of-five series to advance to the semifinals. However, the Warriors were swept 3-0 by 3rd-seeded Sam Houston State in the next round, finishing 4th overall out of 27 teams.

Individually, Ashland Hoyt led the Warriors, bowling five of her six games over 180 for a total of 1127 pins, averaging 187.83 per game. She finished 20th out of 213 bowlers. Kayleigh McKenzie also had a solid performance, placing 35th with a total of 1071 pins and an average of 178.5.

Midland will return to the lanes on November 2-3 when it travels to Hastings, Nebraska to compete in the Bronco Open.
