Warriors Fall to Hastings on Senior Night

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University took its home court for the final time this season, hosting Hastings College on Wednesday for Senior Night. The Warriors battled, but the Broncos' persistent pressure proved too much to overcome as they fell, 86-45.

Erin Foxhall got the scoring started for the Warriors with a three-pointer and quickly followed with another to give Midland an early lead three minutes into the game. However, Hastings responded with a 21-4 run over the final seven minutes of the quarter, taking a 28-13 advantage into the second.

Grace Holm knocked down a three-pointer to open the second quarter for Midland, but Hastings quickly answered with one of their own. The Broncos then added seven straight points to extend their lead to 22. The Warriors fought back with three points from Jenna Weber, two from Foxhall, and two from Leah Redding, but Hastings maintained control, taking a 44-23 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Hastings scored six straight points to push their advantage to 27. Four made free throws and a pair of baskets from Redding helped Midland cut into the deficit, but another seven-point surge from the Broncos extended their lead once again. Hastings entered the final quarter up 61-34.

Midland started the fourth strong with a Shepard three-pointer, a Weber layup, and another Holm three, scoring eight unanswered points. However, the Warriors managed just three more points the rest of the way as Hastings closed the game on a 22-3 run to secure the 86-45 victory.

Sarah Shepard led Midland with 11 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also added nine rebounds and two assists. Foxhall and Weber followed closely behind on the boards, each grabbing seven rebounds. Foxhall finished with nine points, while Weber added seven.

Midland shot 14-of-52 (26.9%) from the field, while Hastings finished 32-of-69 (46.4%). The Broncos' press played a key role in their win, forcing 24 Midland turnovers while committing just 10. Hastings capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 21 points off turnovers.

Midland (4-23, 4-17 GPAC) will conclude its season on Saturday when it travels to Omaha to take on the College of Saint Mary (1-26, 0-21 GPAC). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the Lied Fitness Center.
