No. 1 Dordt Stifles Warriors in Conference Clash

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Midland University continued Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play on Saturday, traveling to Sioux Center to face No. 1-ranked Dordt University. The Defenders controlled the game from start to finish, handing the Warriors an 82-34 loss.

Midland struck first, winning the tip-off and scoring a layup on its opening possession. Dordt responded with a three-pointer and a free throw before Sarah Shepard tied the game at 4-4 three minutes in. From there, the Defenders took control, closing the first quarter on an 18-1 run to lead 22-5.

Dordt extended its advantage with four quick points to start the second before Jenna Weber ended Midland's scoring drought with a jumper. However, the Defenders continued their dominance on both ends of the floor, scoring nine unanswered points to take a 48-13 lead into halftime.

The third quarter opened with both teams trading three-pointers, as Weber connected from long range. Shepard followed with a jumper, and Weber added another mid-range shot to chip into the deficit. Dordt quickly answered, hitting four free throws and two layups to extend its lead to 65-25 heading into the final period.

Dordt opened the fourth quarter on a 15-1 run, further widening the gap. Midland responded with eight straight points but was unable to overcome the deficit, as the Defenders sealed the 82-34 victory.

Weber led the Warriors with 18 points and six rebounds, while Shepard added 11 points and six boards. KD Anna-Peterson contributed two assists.

Midland (3-21, 3-15 GPAC) will return to action Wednesday, traveling to Crete to take on Doane (14-10, 9-9 GPAC). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
