Mahoney Takes First at Wildcat Classic; Warriors Place Fourth

WAYNE, Neb. – Running through intermittent showers and a light drizzle, Midland University and seven other teams competed at the Wildcat Classic Cross Country Meet on Friday. Jonathan Mahoney paced the field of 81 runners, taking the individual win as the Warriors placed fourth as a team.

Mahoney won the 8K race with a time of 26:39.49. It was his best time at that distance since his first year as a Warrior (2021).

Two other Midland runners were among the Top 15 Lu,cas Hjortkjaer (13th) and Henri Stoeckermann (15th). Hjortkjaer turned in a time of 28:20.49 while Stoeckermann ran a time of 28:34.09. Rounding out the Warriors' lineup were Felix Grave (25th, 29:18.11) and Andrew Nunez (56th, 31:22.68).

Next up on the schedule for Midland will be the Briar Cliff Invitational. The race will take place on Saturday, October 7 at the Adams Nature Preserve. The course, located in North Sioux City, South Dakota, will serve as the site of the 2023 Great Plains Athletics Conference Championship in November.
