Warriors Open Season at Augustana Twilight
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Midland University's men's cross country season opened its season on Friday night at the Augustana Twilight. Running under the lights on the campus of Augustana University, the Warriors saw four runners compete in the field of over 350 runners.
Jonathan Mahoney, a junior from Lakewood, Colorado, had a strong showing. He placed 36th with a time of 20:23.87 in the men's four-mile run. The next fastest for Midland was Lucas Hjortkjaer, a freshman from Hvalso, Denmark, at 164th. He turned in a time of 22:03.59 in his first collegiate race.
Felix Grave, a junior from Krumpendorf, Austria, placed 193rd in his first race as a Warrior. He ran a time of 22:23.09. Rounding out the quartet was Henri Stoeckermann. The junior from Herrenberg, Germany ran a time of 23:21.28 to place 263rd.
The field of runners was from every level of college running in the region. The teams took advantage of the unique nighttime race and the cooler temperatures. South Dakota State University won the team title with a pair of runners in the top three. One of which was the individual winner, Carson Noecker, who turned in a time of 18:55.99.
Next up for Midland will be the Missouri Southern Stampede. The Warriors will travel to Joplin, Missouri for the race on Friday, September 15 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. The course has hosted several National Junior Olympic and Junior National Cross Country Championships as well as 12 NCAA Division II Regional and National Championships.
