Hastings Defeats Warriors in Conference Dual

HASTINGS, Neb. – (RV) Midland University faced off against Hastings College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual Wednesday night inside Kiewit Gymnasium. Hastings claimed eight bouts, seven of which produced bonus points, leading to a 42-9 victory for the Broncos.

At 125 pounds, Midland's Kaydon Mueller lost to Creel Weber by fall at 3:35, giving Hastings an early 6-0 lead. The Broncos extended their advantage with back-to-back forfeits at 133 and 141 pounds as Justin Rodriguez and Dalton Michael picked up wins, making it 18-0.

In the 149-pound bout, Hastings' Jack Morton defeated Midland's Zion Amerson by decision, 9-6. After four bouts, Hastings led 21-0. At 157 pounds, Israel Manriguez of Hastings earned a major decision, 14-3, over Tyren Schaefer, pushing the Broncos' lead to 25-0.

The Broncos continued their dominance at 165 pounds as Nicholas Freeland won by technical fall over Midland's Logan Millikan, 15-0, at 1:19. At 174 pounds, McKayde Clevenger of Midland was pinned by Esteban Sedano of Hastings at 1:11, extending the Broncos' lead to 36-0 with three bouts remaining.

Midland earned its first victory of the night at 184 pounds when Colton Horne pinned Trevor Leon at 3:00. With two bouts left, Hastings led 36-6. In the 197-pound match, Midland's Collin Stone fell to Matheson Rodriguez of Hastings by fall at 6:37, increasing the Broncos' lead to 42-6.

In the final bout, 22nd-ranked Zeph Sivels of Midland secured a 2-0 decision over Koen Mattern of Hastings, resulting in a final score of 42-9 in favor of the Broncos.

Midland (0-6, 0-5 GPAC) will return to action on Saturday, December 14, when it competes in the North Central Open in Naperville, Illinois. Competition inside the Residence Hall/Recreation Center is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
