
(RV) Warriors Take to the Mats at Conner/Oppenheimer Open
CRETE, Neb. – Midland University had 11 wrestlers among the 579 student-athletes competing in the Conner/Oppenheim Open, hosted by Doane University on Saturday at the Fuhrer Fieldhouse. Two Midland grapplers competed in the Open Division, while nine wrestled in the Amateur Division.
Colton Horne (184 pounds) went 0-2. In round one, he dropped an 11-5 decision to Hunter Weimer of Concordia. After a consolation-round bye, Horne lost by fall to Bruce Lukehart of Grand View at 3:43.
Remington Gay (285 pounds) had a busy day. In round one, Gay defeated Kazz Hyson of Graceland, 4-1. He then pinned Chance Robinson of Jamestown in 4:03 during the second round. In the quarterfinals, Gay was defeated by Greg Hagan of Grand View by fall in 49 seconds. Gay rebounded in the consolation matches, defeating Caleb Pruitt of Reinhardt (4-2) and Amad Soufi of Missouri Baptist by fall in 53 seconds. His run ended in the consolation semifinals with an 8-2 loss to No. 17 Corbin Hayes of Embry-Riddle.
In the Amateur Division, Kaydon Mueller (125 pounds) went 0-2. He lost to Raymond Hembree of Ottawa by technical fall (16-1) in the first round and was pinned by Calvin Miller of Benedictine at 2:15 in the consolation round.
Jackson Duncan (141 pounds) went 1-2. After losing to Dalton Michael of Hastings by an 11-0 major decision, Duncan pinned Owen Leffert of St. Mary in 1:45 in the consolation round. He ended his day after an injury default against Tristan Becker of Southeast CC at 4:14.
Zion Amerson (149 pounds) wrestled six matches, finishing 3-3. He opened with a 17-2 technical fall over Jaden Kondor of Waldorf, then lost to Braxton Peacher of Iowa Western (10-1). Amerson advanced through consolation matches, defeating Julius Martin (Graceland) by fall (1:06) and Asher Larson (Ottawa) by decision (15-8) before falling to Josiah Bohn (Arizona Christian), 7-1.
Francisco Duran (157 pounds) went 3-2. After a first-round bye, Duran pinned Mohamed Siidow (Wayne State) at 4:24. He lost to Sebastian Freeman (Trinidad State) by fall in 52 seconds and won by medical forfeit over Colby Eighinger (Northern Oklahoma). Duran's day ended in a 15-12 sudden victory loss to Israel Manriquez (Hastings). Tyren Schaefer, also at 157, went 0-2. After a bye, he lost to Nicholas Perez (Grand View) 7-1 and then to Ezra Archuleta (Briar Cliff) 7-5 in the consolation round.
At 165 pounds, both Midland wrestlers went 0-2. McKayde Clevenger lost by fall to Daven Hames (2:11) and Preston Ray (0:34), both from Waldorf. Logan Millikan fell to Ray by technical fall (19-2) and to Josiah Taylor (Iowa Western) by fall (6:58).
Treyton Tweton (184 pounds) earned a third-place finish with a 4-1 record. He defeated Braeden Campbell (Northwestern) 13-9 and Deontez Williams (Morningside) 12-6, then advanced with a 17-12 decision over Aiden Sanchez (Graceland). After a 7-0 semifinal loss to Jackson Perkins (Benedictine), Tweton pinned Spencer Rochelle (Ottawa) at 4:06 and claimed third place via no contest.
Collin Stone (197 pounds) went 1-2. Stone defeated Treviante Thomas (Graceland) 7-1 in the first round but lost to Corey Hyatt (Southeast CC) by technical fall (19-4) and Braeden Stotts (Missouri Baptist) 10-0 in the consolation round.
Midland returns to action Wednesday night in a Great Plains Athletic Conference dual. The Warriors will travel to Hastings, Nebraska, to face the Hastings Broncos. Competition begins at 7:00 p.m. inside Kiewit Gymnasium.
