
Warriors Set School Relay Record at Concordia Classic
SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University delivered an impressive showing at the 2025 Concordia Classic, hosted in Seward, Nebraska, over the weekend. The Warriors highlighted the meet with several top-10 finishes, record-breaking performances, and NAIA National Championship qualifications.
The highlight of the weekend came in the 4x800-meter relay, where the team of Lucas Hjortkjaer, Henri Stoeckermann, Braden Taylor, and Koen Steenblok captured first place with a time of 7:50.66. The relay team met the NAIA "A" standard, set a meet record, and shattered the Midland school record.
In the high jump, Robert Atwater was the standout, clearing 2.09 meters to take first place and secure an NAIA "A" standard qualification. Atwater added a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 4.85 meters, the second-best performance in Midland history, and finished as runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 14.11 meters.
On the track, Raheem Richards excelled in the 400 meters, placing third with a time of 50.74, the sixth-fastest in school history. Richards also took seventh in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.82. Braden Taylor earned a runner-up finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.17, while Jonathan Mahoney claimed second in the 5000 meters, clocking in at 15:33.89. Henri Stoeckermann added a third-place finish in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:31.68, and Evan Shepard secured fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.41.
Midland's depth was evident throughout the meet. Jonah Martinez placed eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.83 meters. In the triple jump, Kenya Ford finished eighth with a mark of 13.23 meters, and Garrett Guindon followed in ninth with a jump of 13.03 meters. Lucas Hjortkjaer rounded out Midland's efforts with a 10th-place finish in the mile, running 4:27.52.
The Warriors will return to action next weekend with a pair of meets on the schedule. They will send athletes to the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas, on Friday and Saturday and to the DWU Alumni Meet on Saturday in Mitchell, South Dakota.
