Warriors Handle Doane in GPAC Dual

CRETE, Neb. – Midland University turned in a strong road performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating Doane University 5-2 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) men's tennis dual.

The Warriors came out firing in doubles play, sweeping all three courts to take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 pairing of Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman earned a 6-4 win over Jose Purizaca and Diego Infante. At No. 2, Jaime De Diego and Andrew Hammer picked up a 6-3 win against Andre Hartman and Elliot Dassel. Rounding out the sweep, Martin Cisneros and Daniel Liebig cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Julio Avila and Christian Jensen.

In singles, Midland continued its dominance with wins on four courts. Stevens carried his momentum from doubles into singles, defeating Purizaca 7-5, 6-2 at the top spot. Starman followed with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win over Infante at No. 2.

Cisneros and Liebig added to the team total with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Cisneros topped Avila 6-3, 6-2, while Liebig dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tanner Adams.

Doane earned its two points with close battles in the middle of the lineup. Hartman edged De Diego in a tight contest at No. 3, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0, while Dassel defeated Hammer 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4.

Midland (7-9, 3-1 GPAC) will return to action on Friday when it hosts Concordia (11-6, 3-1 GPAC). First serve for doubles play is set for 8 a.m. at the Fremont YMCA in Fremont, Nebraska.
