Warriors Cruise Past Hastings in GPAC Action

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University earned a dominant 6-1 victory over Hastings College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) men's tennis dual on Sunday afternoon inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The Warriors captured the doubles point and followed it up with five singles victories to secure the team win.

The Warriors wasted no time in doubles action, sweeping all three matchups. The No. 1 duo of Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens set the tone with a 6-2 win over Ben Hafer and Joel Carter. Cayden Brandner-Stanton and Andrew Hammer followed suit at No. 2 with a 6-2 win over Nick Smeltzer and Ethan Mins. At the No. 3 spot, Martin Cisneros and Jaime De Diego completed the sweep with a 6-2 decision over Alex Hafer and Ethan Zimmerman.

In singles play, Midland clinched the dual with wins in the top five positions. Stevens earned a swift 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Smeltzer. Starman followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Carter, and De Diego posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alex Hafer at No. 3.

Hammer kept the momentum rolling at No. 4, dispatching Ben Hafer 6-2, 6-2, while Cisneros blanked Mins 6-0 at No. 5. The Broncos earned their lone point at No. 6 singles, where Ethan Zimmerman edged Christian Ayala 6-3, 7-5.

Midland (6-9, 2-1 GPAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 9 with another GPAC matchup on the road against Doane (6-9, 1-2 GPAC). First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. in Crete, Nebraska.
