
Warriors Fall in Weekend Road Contests
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Midland University faced a challenging road trip on Saturday, taking on No. 17-ranked William Woods University in the morning and (RV) Missouri Baptist University in the evening. The Warriors dropped both duals by identical 4-0 scores.
William Woods 4, Midland 0
The Warriors opened the day in Fulton, Missouri, against a strong Owls squad. William Woods secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, while Midland's top duo of Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, William Woods clinched the match with victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles. Stevens put up a battle at No. 1 singles, falling 7-5, 6-2, while Starman was defeated 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles, Jaime De Diego fell 6-0, 6-0, securing the match for the Owls before the remaining matches could be completed.
Missouri Baptist 4, Midland 0
Midland concluded the day in St. Louis, where they faced Missouri Baptist. The Spartans secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, while the No. 2 doubles match went unfinished with Midland leading 4-2.
In singles play, Missouri Baptist locked in the match with wins at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles. Starman fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Cayden Brandner-Stanton and Christian Ayala were each defeated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Stevens was engaged in a competitive match at No. 1 singles but trailed 5-4 when play was halted.
Midland (4-9, 0-1 GPAC) will turn its attention back to Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play the rest of the regular season. Up first will be a dual at Northwestern (3-8, 0-0 GPAC) on Friday, April 4. Matches get underway at 4:00 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa.
