Warriors Split Duals on Spring Break Trip

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Midland University's men's tennis team wrapped up its spring break road trip with a 2-2 record, securing wins against a pair of NCAA Division III opponents while falling to an NAIA foe and an NCAA Division I opponent.

Midland 7, Marietta 0

The Warriors opened their trip with a dominant 7-0 sweep over Marietta. Midland set the tone early by securing the doubles point, as Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Cayden Brandner-Stanton and Andrew Hammer blanked their opponents 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, the Warriors continued their strong performance, winning all six matches in straight sets. Stevens (No. 1) and Brandner-Stanton (No. 5) each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Daniel Liebig (No. 2), Martin Cisneros (No. 3), and Hammer (No. 4) dropped just a single game each on their way to wins

Tennessee-Chattanooga 7, Midland 0

Midland faced a tough challenge against Chattanooga and fell 7-0. The Mocs swept doubles play, allowing just five total games across three matches. In singles, the Warriors were unable to take a set, as Chattanooga displayed its depth in a commanding victory.

Judson 6, Midland 1

Against Judson, the Warriors struggled in doubles play, dropping all three matches to concede the opening point. In singles, Joren Stevens picked up the lone win for Midland, defeating Chadd Kerrigan in a three-set battle at No. 1 singles. However, Judson claimed the remaining five singles matches to secure the team victory.

Midland 6, Gettysburg 1

Midland bounced back in its final match of the trip, securing a 6-1 victory over Gettysburg. The Warriors claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Stevens (No. 1), Benjamin Starman (No. 2), Daniel Liebig (No. 3), Martin Cisneros (No. 5), and Cayden Brandner-Stanton (No. 6) all won in straight sets to seal the win.

Midland will be back in action next weekend when it travels to take on Augustana in another nonconference dual. The teams will take the court on Friday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
