Creighton Sweeps Warriors in Spring Opener

OMAHA, Neb. - Midland University opened its spring schedule on Saturday with a tough matchup against Creighton University, falling 7-0 to the Bluejays.

In doubles play, the Warriors struggled to find their rhythm, with Creighton securing the team point with wins in two pairings. The first doubles match between Midland's Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens, and Creighton's Ethan Neil and Rocky McKenzie, was unfinished with the Warriors leading 5-1. Creighton's Zachary Kuo and Kirtan Patel defeated Midland's Jamie De Deigo Llano and Martin Cisneros 6-1, while Blake Eason and Max Stollecker triumphed 6-1 over Andrew Hammer and Cayden Brandner-Stanton in the third doubles match.

Singles action saw similar results, with Creighton winning all six matchups. Stevens battled hard but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-4 to Creighton's Yuma Daijima in the first singles match. Starman struggled against Kuo, losing 6-1, 6-4 in the second singles. In the third, Llano lost to Patel 6-2, 6-1.

Cisneros took the fourth singles match into a tiebreaker, ultimately falling 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 to Stollecker. Hammer was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Ethan Neil, while Brandner-Stanton fell 6-0, 6-2 to Eason in the final singles match.

The Warriors will look to get things going with an exhibition dual with Iowa Central CC next weekend. Midland resumes its spring schedule on Friday, February 21 when it hosts Grand View and Mount Marty.
