
Warriors Win Pair of Duals to Reach GPAC Championship
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – Midland University clinched a spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championship with commanding performances in a pair of duals. The Warriors secured their ticket to the championship with a 4-0 win over Northwestern College 4-0. They followed up with a 4-0 win over Mount Marty University, avenging a loss during the regular season.

In their matchup against the Red Raiders, Midland set the tone early by clinching the doubles point with victories at the top and third spots. Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman showcased their teamwork with a dominant 6-2 win over David Bomgaars and Jorge Menendez Gonzalez. Vitor Goncalves and Arthur Hernandes added a 6-2 victory over Collin Harmelink and Arthur Vincente at No. 2s.
Transitioning to singles action, the Warriors continued their momentum with victories at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 3 positions. Starman displayed his skill and resilience in a hard-fought battle against Bomgaars, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6. Stevens came away with a hard-fought win a No. 3s over Mateo Flores, 6-2, 7-6. Hernandes sealed the deal with a straight-set victory over Vincente, winning 6-1, 7-5.
Midland 4, Mount Marty 0
Against the Lancers, Midland set the tone early with a sweep in all three doubles matches to secure the team point. Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens led the charge with a dominant 6-1 win over Jose Andrade and Pablo Rivest at the top spot. Daniel Liebig and Boris Velasquez contributed to the cause with a solid 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot against Alexander Makarov and Gonzalo Medina. Vitor Goncalves and Arthur Hernandes completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot over Ignacio Gomez and Alejandro Polo.
In singles play, the Warriors continued their relentless pursuit of victory with wins at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 positions. Starman showcased his skill once again with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Makarov. Stevens continued his impressive form with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 win over Rivest, while Goncalves wrapped up the victory at the fourth spot with another convincing 6-0, 6-0 win, over Polo.
With its wins on the opening day of the tournament, Midland advances to the GPAC Championship on Saturday against (RV) Morningside. The teams are quite familiar with one another as they met this past Monday where the Mustangs came away with a tightly-contested dual to earn the regular season title. Saturday will mark the sixth straight appearance for the Warriors in the championship dual. First serve is set for approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 27 back inside the First Serve Tennis Center in South Sioux City.
