Warriors Withstand Challenge from Bulldogs

SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University continued its conference schedule on Tuesday with a dual at Concordia University. The Warriors secured the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual over the Bulldogs, 5-2, in a hard-fought match in Seward, Nebraska.

The Warriors controlled doubles play, clinching the team point by winning two out of three matches. At the top spot, Ben Starman and Joren Stevens displayed exceptional teamwork as they defeated Manuel Rodriguez and Michael Bedrosian with a score of 6-4. The battle at No. 3 doubles saw Ryosei Masuda and Daniel Liebig emerge victorious with a 6-4 win over Grady Works and Mitch Krumm.

As singles play commenced, Concordia showed a little bark by securing victories at the 1st and 2nd positions. The Warriors' depth chased the Bulldogs back, winning the remaining four matches to seal the overall team win.

Joren Stevens continued his stellar performance in singles play, securing a victory at No. 3s with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win over Santiago Abadia. Vitor Goncalves demonstrated his endurance at No. 4s, triumphing over Bedrosian with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 scoreline. Nathen Bitzer joined the winning streak with a solid performance at No. 5s, defeating Works with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Closing out the Bulldogs' challenge, Ryosei Masuda sealed the victory for Midland University at No. 6s, clinching a 6-2, 6-2 win over Luke Johnson.

Midland (9-5, 3-1 GPAC) will look to keep pace in the conference race with an important dual with Doane (11-10, 2-2 GPAC) on Saturday. The Warriors and Tigers are set to take the courts at Fremont High on April 20 with a 12:00 p.m. start on Senior Day.
