Warriors Fall to Mount Marty in Conference Dual

YANKTON, S.D. – In a closely contested Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual, Midland University succumbed to Mount Marty University with a final score of 4-3 on Friday in Yankton, South Dakota. Despite a promising start with a sweep in doubles matches, Midland couldn't maintain the momentum in singles play.

The Warriors secured the first team point of the day by clinching victories in all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman displayed teamwork, defeating Alejandro Polo and Jose Andrade with a score of 6-2. Following suit, Vitor Goncalves and Arthur Hernandes claimed victory at No. 2, prevailing over Pablo Rivest and Alexander Makarov 6-3. The doubles' sweep was sealed by Daniel Liebig and Boris Velasquez at No. 3, as they outlasted Ignacio Gomez and Gonzalo Medina with a score of 6-4.

The momentum shifted in singles play, with the Lancers securing the majority of the matches. Midland's top performers, Starman and Stevens, managed to clinch victories at the top two positions. Starman exhibited a dominant performance, defeating Makarov in straight sets (6-1, 6-4), while Stevens secured a two-set win over Andrade (6-3, 7-5). Despite their efforts, the Warriors fell short in the remaining singles matches, ultimately conceding the dual to Mount Marty, 4-3.

Midland (6-5, 0-1 GPAC) will look to rebound in its next outing, another conference dual at Hastings (XX) next week. The teams will take to the courts on Wednesday, April 3 in Hastings, Nebraska. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
