Warriors Defeat Grand View in Blustery Conditions

DES MOINES, Iowa – Midland University braved the wind and cold as it earned a convincing victory over Grand View University on Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa. The Warriors took an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches, on their way to the 6-1 victory at the McCollum Waveland Tennis Complex.

In the No. 1 doubles, Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman demonstrated their strength with a 6-3 triumph over Dylan Ramsay and Enzo Naveda Canessa. Vitor Goncalves and Ryosei Masuda continued the winning trend at No. 2 doubles, defeating Abbot Haner and Zachary Wallace. The doubles pair of Nathen Bitzer and Andrew Hammer rounded out the sweep at No. 3s with a dominant performance with a 6-0 victory against Samuel Londono and Lier Ayaraza.

Moving into singles play, the Warriors experienced a setback at No. 1s but quickly rebounded by winning the remaining five matchups in straight sets. Joren Stevens at No. 2s showcased his skills with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Naveda Canessa. Vitor Goncalves secured the No. 3s spot with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win against Haner. Ryosei Masuda continued the winning streak at No. 4s, defeating Wallace with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-0. Nathen Bitzer dominated at No. 5s with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Londono, while Andrew Hammer closed out the victory at No. 6s with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Ayarza.

Midland will hit the road this coming weekend for a pair of duals in Kansas. On Friday, MU will go up against Bethel at 3:00 p.m. in North Newton. Saturday's dual will be against McPherson at 3:00 p.m. in McPherson. The trip will conclude with an exhibition against Jacksonville College, also in McPherson.
