Garcia Highlights Warriors’ All-GPAC Sections

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) has announced the 2024 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team, as voted on by the league's coaches. Hugo Garcia-Rosado Duran earned GPAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the All-GPAC First Team, alongside teammate Hugo Sjoeberg. Adnan Boulaghmal and Lucas Foreman were named to the Second Team, while Matheus Nascimento received honorable mention recognition.

Garcia, a junior midfielder, was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring with 12 goals and four assists in 17 games.

"I'm incredibly proud of what my team accomplished this year," said head coach Josh Nakayama. "Hugo Garcia has been an amazing addition to our program. I think winning Offensive Player of the Year was well deserved. He was a clear standout on our team and in the GPAC."

Sjoeberg, the Warriors' sophomore goalkeeper, joined Garcia on the All-GPAC First Team. Sjoeberg started every game and came within 17 minutes and 13 seconds of playing every minute of the Warriors' season in goal. He led the GPAC with 89 saves and posted the conference's third-best save percentage, stopping 73.6% of shots on target.

"Hugo Sjoeberg was the best goalkeeper in the conference," Nakayama said. "He saved two of the three penalty kicks we faced this year and led the GPAC in saves. He also earned more Player of the Week honors than any other defensive player this season. We would not have won many of our games without his efforts in goal."

Boulaghmal and Foreman, both sophomores, earned Second Team honors for their standout performances. Boulaghmal netted 10 goals, finishing among the conference's top scorers, while Foreman started all 19 games and scored twice as a defender.

Nascimento, a midfielder, earned honorable mention recognition after contributing two goals and two assists during the season.

"Lucas Foreman, Matheus Nascimento, and Adnan Boulaghmal were absolutely fabulous this season," Nakayama said. "I'm thankful for all their sacrifices for the team. These honors are well deserved."

The Warriors finished the 2024 season with an 8-7-4 overall record, including a 6-2-2 mark in GPAC play. Their 20 conference points were the most for the program since the 2019 season.
