No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan Shuts Out Warriors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Midland University played a neutral site game in Overland Park, Kansas on Wednesday against No. 6-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Warriors were overmatched by the high-powered Eagles who scored six in the first half and cruised to an 8-0 victory in the nonconference match.

Oklahoma Wesleyan took the lead after an own goal in the 12th minute gave the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Their advantage doubled in the 24th minute as Joao Neves slotted home a penalty kick to put the Eagles up 2-0. Neves would be back in the action six minutes later, this time assisting Matheus Ulrich who put the Eagles up 3-0 after 30 minutes.

A flurry of goals came quickly in the 33rd minute as Ulrich scored another goal assisted by Neves before Neves was able to get his second goal of the game less than a minute later to make it 5-0.

Oklahoma Wesleyan added one more goal before half as Carson Papp scored in the 38th minute to make it 6-0 heading into the intermission.

The Eagles scored two more goals in the second half, one in the 60th and another in the 80th to end the game with an 8-0 scoreline.

Colton Costello led the Warriors' offense who was held in check on the scoreboard with two shots while Hugo Sjoeberg played the first 73 minutes in goal and made three saves.

Midland (2-3-2) will look to rebound next Wednesday when it opens the conference portion of the schedule. Start time of the Great Plains Athletic Conference opener against Dordt (1-3-1) is set for 7:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
