MITCHELL, S.D. – With the regular season winding down, Midland University made the trip to Mitchell, South Dakota to take on Dakota Wesleyan University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on a Saturday afternoon. After a defensive battle through most of game, the Warriors ultimately fell 2-1 to the Tigers at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
Both team's offenses were aggressive in the first half but neither could find the back of the net. Through the first 45 minutes of action, Dakota Wesleyan held a slight edge in shot attempts 8-6 as the sides tied in shots on the frame with 4 each.
After the intermission, DWU was the first to put a tally on the scoreboard with a goal in the 71st minute. Shortly after, they added a second goal of the game, which would foreseeably be the game-winning goal.
With time winding down, Dawson Butcher put the Warriors on the board in the final seconds as he headed the ball past the keeper. Adnan Boulaghmal assisted on the 90th-minute goal as he headed a corner kick back to Butcher in front of the keeper.
Both teams finished 14 shots on the night with Midland taking the edge in shots on frame, 8-5. Marco Moresco played the full 90 minutes in goal, picking up three saves on the afternoon.
Midland (3-7-5, 1-3-5 GPAC) will take on Briar Cliff (10-2-2, 7-0-2 GPAC) in a conference matchup next week in Sioux City, Iowa. The match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25 at Faber Field.
