Warriors Garner Season Opening Win over (RV) Williams Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Midland University men's soccer opened up its 2023 season on the road against (RV) Williams Baptist University on Saturday. After a scoreless half, the Warriors battled it out to earn the 2-1 win over the Eagles to start the season.

Midland struggled to unite in the first half, with a yellow card drawn in the 38th minute. Both defenses stood tough through the first 45 as they remained scoreless at the end of the first half.

After the scoreless period, the Warriors found their groove as Adnan Boulaghmal scored in the 47th minute, with an assist from Patrick Long and Nathan Powis. Shortly after, the Eagles brought the game to a tie in the 52nd minute. Looking to battle back, Boulaghmal put the Warriors on top with his second goal of the game in the 85th minute with an assist by Patrick Long. Midland held William Baptist from scoring the remainder of the game, to clinch their first win of the season.

In goal, Marco Moresco played the full 90 minutes. He corralled four saves to earn the victory.

"Very pleased with the result. It's always good to start the season with a win," said head coach Josh Nakayama. "We dealt with a very good WBU team who played very well. I'm very confident we can have a good season. It's time to focus in on a tough Grand View team now."

Midland (1-0) will be back in action on Wednesday, August 30 when they host Grand View (1-0). The home opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
