Meier’s Record-Setting Night Leads Warriors to First Win of the Season
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Missouri Valley College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup on a rainy Saturday evening. The Warriors earned their first win of the season with an 11-4 victory over the Vikings, highlighted by a record-setting performance from Carson Meier, who scored seven goals.
Meier set the tone early, scoring at the 13:26 mark to give Midland a 1-0 lead. Brian Cole added another goal at the 3:14 mark to extend the advantage. Meier struck again just before the end of the first period, scoring an unassisted goal with six seconds remaining to put the Warriors up 3-0.
Meier continued his dominance in the second period, opening with a goal at the 9:03 mark to push Midland's lead to 4-0. Minutes later, he assisted Gavin Bartling on another goal, widening the gap to 5-0. Missouri Valley finally responded at the 4:45 mark with its first goal of the game. However, Meier had the final say in the first half, scoring off an assist from Tanner Jamison at the 4:24 mark to give Midland a commanding 6-1 lead at halftime.
After the intermission, the Vikings struck first in the third period at the 13:41 mark. Meier kept the momentum going, scoring at 7:45, but Missouri Valley answered less than a minute later at 6:59. Midland responded with two more goals before the period ended—Leland Thiel scored at 2:19, followed by Michael Roman with 29 seconds remaining—to extend the lead to 9-3.
Missouri Valley continued to fight, opening the fourth period with a goal at 12:26. Meier then sealed Midland's victory with back-to-back goals—his first unassisted at 11:34, followed by another at 4:17 off an assist from Jamison.
Goalie Sean Erickson anchored the Warriors' defense with nine saves.
"That was a complete team win. Energy was high from the opening whistle on a cold, rainy day. Offensively, we executed at a high level, and our defense held strong from start to finish. An 11-4 result against a good opponent like that shows how far we've come this season—I'm proud of how locked in our team was today," said head coach Alex Myhre.
Midland (1-7, 1-3 HAAC) will travel to Ottawa, Kansas, to face Ottawa (0-6, 0-4 HAAC) in a conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start on Wednesday, April 2.
