Warriors Drop Neutral-Site Clash with No. 10 Madonna

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Midland University faced No. 10-ranked Madonna University in a non-conference, neutral-site matchup on Monday afternoon. The game, which was moved to the start of the week due to cold weather over the weekend, saw the Warriors battle throughout before falling to the Crusaders, 19-3.

Madonna came out firing in the first quarter, scoring seven goals. Midland's lone first-half goal came from Asher Thomas at the 9:29 mark of the opening period. The Crusaders controlled possession and forced the Warriors into tough defensive situations. In the second quarter, Madonna extended its lead with six unanswered goals, taking a commanding 13-1 advantage into halftime.

The Crusaders continued to build on their lead in the third quarter, scoring four more goals to go up 17-1. The Warriors found some offensive momentum in the fourth, as Carson Meier and Lane Kallhoff each found the back of the net to break a long scoring drought. Gavin Bartling added an assist on Kallhoff's goal. Madonna tacked on two more goals in the final frame to secure the 19-3 victory.

Sean Erickson was in goal for the Warriors, recording 21 saves while facing 51 shots. Madonna outshot Midland 51-26 and forced 35 Warrior turnovers while committing just 16.

Midland (0-2) will travel to Upland, Indiana, to take on Taylor (1-1) in a non-conference matchup on Thursday, March 2. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
