Warriors Fall in Season Opener to (RV) Michigan-Dearborn

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Midland University kicked off its 2025 season on Sunday afternoon with a neutral-site matchup against (RV) University of Michigan-Dearborn in Davenport, Iowa. The Warriors fell to the Wolverines in a 14-4 nonconference contest.

Midland started strong, seizing early momentum and jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter. Carson Meier found the back of the net first with an unassisted goal on an extra-man opportunity at the 14:17 mark, setting the tone for the Warriors. Less than 15 seconds later, Meier assisted Tanner Jamison for another goal, putting Midland ahead 2-0.

Michigan-Dearborn quickly responded, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Warriors battled defensively in the second period, holding the Wolverines scoreless while creating several offensive opportunities of their own. Despite their efforts, Midland was unable to capitalize, and the score remained 5-2 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Michigan-Dearborn turned up the pressure, outshooting Midland 16-1 in the third quarter while adding six more goals to widen the gap. The Wolverines' offense was led by Cole Rosenwald and Reece Rath, who each recorded a hat trick, while seven different Michigan-Dearborn players registered at least one goal.

Midland showed resilience in the fourth quarter, with Meier leading the charge once again. He netted back-to-back goals to complete his hat trick, finishing with three goals and one assist on the night. The Warriors outshot their opponent 7-4 in the final minutes but couldn't close the deficit as Michigan-Dearborn tacked on two more late goals to seal the 14-4 final.

Michigan-Dearborn outshot Midland 51-19. The Warriors committed 32 turnovers to the Wolverines' 28. Midland goalie Sean Erickson recorded 21 saves. Meier finished with three unassisted goals and an assist, while Jamison added one goal.

Midland (0-1) looks to bounce back on Monday, Feb. 24, when it takes on No. 10 Madonna (2-1) in another nonconference matchup in Davenport, Iowa. Game time is set for noon.
