Warriors Stung by (RV) St. Ambrose in Nonconference Play

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University played host to (RV) St. Ambrose University on Wednesday night in a nonconference matchup in Fremont. After an evenly played first quarter, the Warriors were swarmed by the Fighting Bees, falling 14-1 at Heedum Field.

The contest began with a burst of energy as St. Ambrose buzzed its way to the game's first goal within the first 20 seconds of play. Midland showcased resilience, strategically playing a possession-oriented approach as it looked to negate their bench depth. The tactic bore fruit when, with just under six minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Brian Cole's quick thinking facilitated Joshua Pereira's equalizer, knotting the score at 1-1 with 5:33 on the clock.

With the score tied 1-1 after the first quarter, the Bees surged ahead in the second, capitalizing on offensive opportunities to build a commanding 6-1 lead by halftime. Despite Midland's efforts to thwart St. Ambrose's advances, the Bees maintained their offensive pressure, extending their lead to 8-1 by the end of the third quarter.

In the final stanza, St. Ambrose's depth started to show as it capitalized on scoring opportunities, netting six goals to secure the 14-1 victory. Midland's Wyatt Dudziak had an exceptional game in goal with 19 saves in a losing effort.

St. Ambrose asserted dominance in several key statistical categories. They held a hefty advantage in ground balls (41-16), shots (63-17), and face-off wins (11-7). Joshua Pereira, who scored the Warriors' lone goal, had 9 shots on the night with 7 on target as the team's main offensive threat. Preston Davis had 3 shots on the night while Zachary Brown added a pair.

Midland (1-10, 1-2 KCAC) will look to rally back later this week with a home contest against Columbia (2-8, 2-1 KCAC). The teams will meet up for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt on Friday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on April 12 with Senior Day festivities taking place prior.
