(RV) Benedictine Too Much for Warriors

ATCHISON, Kan. – Taking to the road for the first time this season, Midland University traveled to face (RV) Benedictine College on Friday night. The Warriors fell to the Ravens, 21-3 in nonconference action at Legacy Field.

The Ravens scored the first seven goals of the contest, totaling five in the opening period. Four different Benedictine players found the back of the net as Mac Postel, Jacob Meyer, and Joey Calabria all scored. Joseph Bianchi scored the final two goals in the first, to make it 5-0 in favor of the Ravens.

Liam Waldron and Mason Eberle scored in the first two minutes of the second period to put Benedictine ahead 7-0. Midland responded by putting two goals on the board in a matter of 30 seconds. Joshua Pereira and Preston Davis scored back-to-back goals to make the score, 7-2. However, Benedictine answered with three goals before halftime as Calabria found the net with 6:12 remaining and Eberle scored back-to-back goals at 5:12 and 1:12 to play in the quarter. The Ravens had a 10-2 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Benedictine outscored Midland, 5-0. Zachary Torres scored, a man-up, with 12:56 left in the quarter. Then, Postel, followed by two Bianchi goals and another tally by Eberly made it 15-2, Benedictine, at the end of the third quarter.

The Warriors started the scoring in the fourth quarter, as Pereira scored his second goal of the night, assisted by Carson Meier, to make it 15-3. However, the home team scored six unanswered goals to finish the evening. Eberle scored three consecutive goals, followed by Bianchi and Calabria, and then Eberly added his eighth goal of the night with 1:11 remaining. Benedictine finished off the contest with a 21-3 victory.

The Ravens outshot the Warriors 40-8, on goal. Midland committed 47 turnovers, to Benedictine's 22. Joshua Pereira led Midland with two goals, off four shots. Preston Davis scored the other goal for the Warriors. Benedictine's Mason Eberle scored eight goals off eleven shots. Joseph Bianchi scored five times for the Ravens and Joey Calabria added three goals, in a list of Benedictine multiple-goal scorers on the night.

Midland goalkeeper Wyatt Dudziak recorded 19 saves on the night, facing 60 shots. CJ Besuzzi saved five shots for Benedictine off 15 Midland attempts.

Midland (0-2) will return to action next week when it hosts the University of Northwestern-Minnesota. Action is set for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at Heedum Field in Fremont.
