
Warriors Place Seventh at USBC Sectionals
ADDISON, Ill. – Midland University was back on the lanes over the weekend, competing in the Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectionals in Addison, Illinois. Eight Midland bowlers vied for individual national qualification, while the team finished seventh out of 21 squads, totaling 11,852 pins across 60 Baker games.
On Friday, eight Midland bowlers participated in the ISC Sectionals, where the top eight finishers earned spots at nationals. After six games, Jack Pearson was Midland's highest finisher, placing 25th out of 273 bowlers with a total pinfall of 1,348, highlighted by a 244 in his fourth game. Brandon Ogden followed, tying for 57th place with a total pinfall of 1,284, recording four games over 200.
Michael Saxton finished in 64th place with a total pinfall of 1,277, including four games over 210 and a high of 248. Donald Wu tied for 91st with a total of 1,253 pins, while Nathan Hartje placed 176th with a pinfall of 1,154.
Rounding out the Midland competitors, Casey Upton tied for 190th with 1,131 pins, Camryn Stefanini tied for 219th with 1,086, and Christopher Taliva'a placed 241st with 1,030.
In the team competition on Saturday and Sunday, the Warriors sought a top-four finish to qualify for the ITC Championships in Las Vegas. After the first block of 16 Baker games, Midland sat in eighth place but climbed to seventh by game 32. They remained in that position for the final 28 games, ultimately missing out on national qualification.
The Warriors posted a total pinfall of 11,852, with their highest single-game score of 267 coming in Game 50. Their best block of 16 games occurred Sunday, tallying 3,142 pins from Games 33 to 48.
