Ioane Kaio Has Big Day in Warriors’ Victory

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University senior quarterback Angel Ioane Kaio threw five touchdown passes to lead the Warriors to a 33-6 victory over Southwestern College on Saturday afternoon in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) action at Heedum Field.

The Warriors scored on their opening drive, which took six plays. Ioane Kaio connected with Allaya Livingston for a 29-yard touchdown pass. The conversion pass from Ioane Kaio to Livingston was good, giving Midland a 7-0 lead with 8:44 remaining in the first quarter.

After a defensive stop, the Warriors got the ball back and scored again. On the third play of the drive, Ioane Kaio passed to Morgan Kalisek, who lateraled the ball to Olivia Dominguez-Millsop for a 23-yard touchdown. The conversion failed, and Midland led 13-0 with 3:30 remaining in the first.

Southwestern's lone score came on the ensuing possession. On the second play of the drive, Kennedi Hayes threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Teagan Smith. The conversion attempt failed, and Midland led 13-6 with 2:47 left in the opening quarter.

Midland added another score just before halftime. Ioane Kaio again connected with Livingston, this time for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The conversion pass to Livingston was also successful, giving the Warriors a 20-6 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the half.

The Warriors extended their lead in the third quarter. With 7:59 on the clock, Ioane Kaio found Kalisek for a 19-yard touchdown. He then ran in the two-point conversion, making it 27-6.

The final score of the game came with 2:16 to play in the third, as Dominguez-Millsop caught her second touchdown of the day—this one a 30-yard pass from Ioane Kaio. The conversion failed, and Midland led 33-6. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter.

Midland (6-6, 3-4 KCAC) totaled 309 yards of offense, while Southwestern (6-5, 2-5 KCAC) managed 157.

Ioane Kaio completed 25-of-42 passes for 292 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. Livingston had five receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Dominguez-Millsop caught four passes for 60 yards and two scores, while Kalisek added two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Hayes led the Moundbuilders' offense, completing 15-of-30 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Smith finished with four receptions for 68 yards and one score.

Defensively, the Warriors were led by Cydnee Redd with 7.5 tackles. Livingston added five tackles and two interceptions.

Smith led Southwestern with six tackles. Olivia Manfre had one interception.

Midland (6-6, 3-4 KCAC) returns to action on Wednesday, April 9, when it visits Cottey (2-7, 2-7 KCAC). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Nevada High School Football Field in Nevada, Missouri.
